Box Score MEDFORD - Two goals by
Erin Duncan in the span of 12 minutes helped Tufts on its way to a 4-0 NESCAC women's soccer win over the Connecticut College Camels on Saturday afternoon at Bello Field.
Thalia Greenberg and
Juliana Rosen scored the other goals for the Jumbos.
After a scoreless first half, Greenberg's goal opened the scoring in the 51st minute as she took a pass from
Maddie Pero who had made a great run through the midfield. Duncan's first goal of the game came a little more than 30 seconds later as
Nic Sommers' great defense forced a turnover and her run down the left side of the field found Duncan as she put it home into the bottom right-hand corner.
In the 62nd minute,
Claire Wilkinson made a good run on the right side of the field and passed to Sommers who was making a run at the top of the box. The pass was too hard, and the goalie came out to play it and it hit off her hands and went out to Duncan who scored on the open net giving her three goals on the season. A little more than 25 minutes later, Rosen scored off a misplay by the Camels goalie to give the Jumbos a 4-0 lead.Â
Connecticut College was stifled by the Tufts defense for most of the game, but was able to force the Tufts goalies into good saves to keep the shutout. In the 60th minute, Mya Johnson had a good look as she was running and shot the ball from inside the box, but Jumbo keeper
Kaelin Logue made a diving save. Then about 10 minutes later, Amanda Behre had a nice header from a corner kick that Logue saved again.
The Jumbos' attack shined again in this one as they out-shot the Camels 17-8, with 11 of them in the second half. With all the attacking by Tufts, it led to them having the advantage in corners as well, as they had seven corners to Connecticut College's four. For the Camels, goalkeeper Sarah Hall had six saves on the day, while on the other side, starter Hayler Bernstein made one save and second-half goalie
Kaelin Logue had five saves.Â
With the win, Tufts moves to 2-0-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference play. The Jumbos will travel to Wesleyan on Tuesday at 4:30pm. After the loss, Connecticut College is now 1-1-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference play. The Camels will be at home next to square off with Coast Guard on Wednesday at 4 pm.Â
