ATLANTA - Undefeated Washington University in St. Louis (8-0) handed the Tufts volleyball team its first loss of the season in four sets at the East*West Classic hosted by Emory University on Saturday night.

Cora Thompson's Jumbos won two of their three matches at the tournament and will come home with a 3-1 overall record.
After losing the first set 25-19 to Wash U, the Jumbos rallied for a 25-23 victory to tie the match. The second set was tied 23-23 and Tufts scored the final two points including a kill by
Maya Lightfoot. However, the Bears won 25-19 and 25-23 in the following sets to capture the match.
Twelve kills by Lightfoot led Tufts, who hit just .130 in the match.
Jennelle Yarwood added 11 kills.
Maddie Yu (21 assists, 15 digs) and
Megan Harrison (12 digs, ace) added to the Jumbo effort.
The Bears were led by 18 kills from Michaela Bach, who made just two errors in her 41 swings for a .390 hitting percentage. Sam Buckley totaled 43 assists in four sets and Elise Gilroy served five aces. Buckley and Bach had 13 digs each.
