Men's Cross Country's Wagude Wins Again at Bates

NEW GLOUSTER, Maine – Junior Walter Wagude won a race for the second straight week to open the 2022 season, but the Tufts men's cross country team lost to Bates College at the Bates Super XC Shootout on Saturday.

Wagude's 25:25.8 time was 12 seconds ahead of second-place Ned Farrington from Bates (25:37.1). The Jumbo adds the win to last week's victory at Smith College.

The Bobcats edged the Jumbos in team scoring 24-31. Bates placed four in the top five of the eight-kilometer race.

Sophomore Ivan Appleton took second for Tufts and fifth overall today at 26:24.5, and senior Oliver Printy was the third Jumbo scorer coming across the finish line in 26:39.0 (sixth).

First-years Luke Brennan (26:53.1) and Amokrane Aouchiche (26:54.4) were also Jumbo scorers and top 10 finishers in the 38-man race.

Tufts travels to Bowdoin for next week's action.
