HARTFORD – First-year
Zoe Gregory served consecutive aces to close out the Tufts University volleyball team's four-set NESCAC victory at Trinity College on Saturday afternoon.
The Jumbos (4-2, 1-1 NESCAC) and Bantams (2-3, 0-1) played a competitive match with set scores of 26-24, 23-25, 25-20 and 26-24.
In the opening action Tufts faced set point down 24-22, but scored four in a row led by two kills from junior Riley Farragher and the set-winner by junior
Christine Audette. Three Tufts errors helped the host Bantams emerge out of a 20-20 tie in the second set to win, with kills by Bantams Molly Bernstein and Margaret McCarthy helping even the match at 1-1.
Tufts took 10 of the final 15 points to earn the third set win, led by Farragher's two kills. Trinity made five errors during that stretch. The fourth set was tied at 24 before Gregory's strong serving sealed the win for the Jumbos.
Farragher and Audette both had 14 kills for Tufts, while first-year
Ella Norris' 24 assists led the Jumbos. Junior
Brittany Bennet was a force at the net defensively for Tufts with five blocks (three solo). Audette with 15 digs and
Stephanie Lee at 14 led Tufts in that category.
For Trinity, McCarthy, Lola Craig and Isabella Caffuzzi all had eight kills. Berstein and Grace Sullivan both served four of Trinity's 12 aces. Bernstein and Eva Lekovic recorded three solo blocks and four total, and 12 digs from Ava Boloyan topped Trinity.
