Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Takes Down Salem State 4-1

It was a night filled with goals when Tufts met with Salem State Wednesday night at Bello Field where the final score was 4-1 in favor of the Jumbos.

The scoring opened in the 34th minute when Tufts earned a corner that was taken by Max Cook. He clipped a ball into the box which found a leaping Max Clivio who jumped over two Vikings and headed the ball which went bar down and in giving the Jumbos a 1-0 lead going into the halftime.

As the second half began it was Salem state who got on the board first. They were awarded a penalty kick in the 60th minute which was taken with a shot to the bottom left corner but was stopped by Erik Lauta. The rebound spilled out to Michael Flynn who one time finished it into the bottom right corner. Tufts and Salem State were even at 1-1.

It wasn't long after that where freshman Daniel Yanez put the ball into the back of the net for Tufts with a stunning finish. Yanez took the ball away from the Vikings right after the kickoff, took one touch forward and from 25 yards had a crack at the goal. The ball curled to the back post and over the goalkeeper it went tucking nicely into the top left corner. The Jumbos were back on top 2-1 after being tied for only 16 seconds.

The scoring wasn't quite over for the Jumbos as Ian Daly wanted to add his name to the score sheet. Daly received a chipped through ball from Zach Seigelstein that put him into the box one on one with Matt Hauntsman, but Daly chipped the ball over him and into the back of the net putting Tufts ahead 3-1.

As the game was coming to a close in the 85th minute of play, Tufts went on another attacking run in which Andres Rosas was played a ball through the back line of the defense into the right corner where he then centered a ball low driven into Mikey Brady who tapped it home first touch and the Jumbos put their final stamp on the game 4-1.

Tufts earned themselves three corners on the night in comparison to Salem State's two. Erik Lauta for the Jumbos recorded just one save where Matt Hauntsman of the Vikings made seven saves tonight. Tufts put on 21 shots in total with 11 on target, opposite them Salem State attempted six total shots with two on target.

Tufts improves their record to 3-1-2, 1-0-1 while Salem State is now 3-3-1, 1-1-1. The Jumbos now prepare for Saturday where they will travel to Hamilton for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
