Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Hoops Bested At Hamilton Saturday

CLINTON, NY (January 14, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's basketball team shot a season-low 25 percent from the floor on Saturday, falling to host Hamilton College 59-43 in conference action from Bundy Scott Field House.

The Jumbos (11-5, 2-1 New England Small College Athletic Conference) just couldn't get it going from the field on Saturday, coming off an emotional win Friday evening at Amherst College followed by a long trip to New York for today's game. The trip and heavy legs were apparent early as Hamilton scored the first eight points of the game before first-year Sarah Crossett poured in a bucket 3:20 into the contest to make it 8-2.

The Continentals (9-6, 2-2 NESCAC) would push their lead up to nine with two and a half minutes to play in the first quarter, as Tufts trailed 15-8 after the first 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the Jumbos were just 2-of-13 from the field and trailed 24-13 at halftime. After the break, Hamilton pushed its lead to double-figures where it stayed for the rest of the contest.

Crossett finished with a team-high 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, pulling in six rebounds as well. Junior Maggie Russell tallied six points, four steals and eight rebounds, while senior Callie O'Brien came off the bench to scored nine points while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two helpers. The Jumbos connected on just 15 of its 60 field goals Saturday, while connected on 3-of-20 (15 percent) from behind the arc.

Hamilton had a balanced attack offensively, as Taylor Lambo led the way with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Shay and Emma Sehring each contributed 11 points, while Emily Hall added 10 points. The Continentals made 19-of-29 from the free throw line Saturday, and won the rebounding battle 52-37.

Tufts will have a week to rest up before hosting Bates College in Cousens Gymnasium Saturday, January 21 at 3 p.m. in NESCAC action.
