WALTHAM, MA (October 17, 2023) -- First-year outside hitter posted a career-high 15 kills Tuesday night, helping the Tufts University women's volleyball squad to a four-set victory at Brandeis University in non-conference play from Red Auerbach Arena. The Jumbos shook off a first-set loss to earn a 19-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-18 win.
Castor posted her second career double-digit kill contest in her career, as she finished with a match-high 15 on 37 attempts. She also added eight digs and a service ace on the night. The Jumbos (10-7) rallied after dropping the opening set to hit a match-best .306 in the second set as Castor and senior
Rileigh Farragher each finished with four kills.
The third set was tied at 19 late but Tufts pulled away for the 25-21 win as first-years Castor,
Emma Heckman and
Rianna Liu all registered kills in the run to clinch the set. The fourth set was all Tufts, as it led the entire period while leading by as many as 11 points to secure the win. The 15 kills in the fourth set were the most by either team in any set all night.
Farragher finished with eight kills on 23 attempts, adding three assisted blocks, and Heckman also recorded eight terminations while hitting .368 for the match. Senior
Cora Cunningham was very efficient, hitting .467 with seven kills in 15 attacks, and first-year
Abigail Gray also finished with seven finishes.
Both setters and the libero each finished with double-doubles for the Jumbos, as
Maddie Yu finished with 22 assists and 10 digs in the win. Liu tallied 15 helpers and 10 digs, while senior libero
Megan Harrison had 18 digs and 10 assists en route to her second career double-double.
Alina Qi also posted a team-best five blocks.
Anna Ertischek tallied 14 kills to lead the way for the Judges (7-10), and Lara Verstovsek also posted 11 kills and eight digs for Brandeis.
Tufts will take on Babson College Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Williams College in non-conference play.
