MEDFORD, MA (October 28, 2023) -- The Tufts University volleyball team got the victory it needed on the final day of the regular season Saturday, knocking off visiting Bowdoin College in three sets in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.
With the win and Trinity College's loss at Middlebury College, Tufts will be the No. 4 seed and host No. 5 Trinity College next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Cousens Gym in the NESCAC Tournament quarterfinals.
The Jumbos (13-8, 6-4 NESCAC) used the momentum from last night's three-set win over Connecticut College Saturday, hitting .287 for the contest while tallying just 10 errors in 108 attempts. Tufts didn't trail until the third set, and controlled the play the entire match to finish conference play with a five-match winning streak.
The balance on offense was evident, as junior
Alina Qi finished with a team-high nine kills, adding three assisted blocks, and first-year
Claire Castor continued her fine play of late with eight kills and six digs. Fellow newcomer
Emma Heckman finished with seven kills on 14 swings, and
Rileigh Farragher and
Tori Goldin each added six terminations apiece.
First-year
Rianna Liu finished with a double-double of 11 assists and 11 digs, and senior setter
Maddie Yu dished out a team-high 18 helpers.
Cora Cunningham also helped out with a match-high four aces.
Megan Harrison registered a match-best 14 digs.
Skye LaMendola tallied a match-best 11 kills to go with seven digs, and Ella Haugen led the Polar Bears (11-9, 3-7 NESCAC) with 13 digs and 21 assists.
