LEWISTON, ME (October 8, 2023) -- The Tufts University volleyball team snapped a three-match skid in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action Saturday, stifling Bates College defensively in a 3-0 win in Alumni Gymnasium. Tufts earned the win with decisive scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-10.
The Jumbos (7-7, 2-4 NESCAC) allowed just 12 kills all match defensively, forcing 15 hitting errors by the Bobcats in the victory. The Jumbos also were very efficient offensively, erring only eight times while hitting .317 in the win.Â
Tufts was paced offensively by the eight kills from
Rileigh Farragher, as the senior hit .500 on 16 attempts. Fellow senior
Tori Goldin added seven kills and two digs while first-year
Emma Heckman tallied four kills.Â
Defensively,
Megan Harrison racked up a team-high 10 digs and four service aces, and first-year setter
Rianna Liu finished with nine assists, three aces and three digs.Â
Senior
Maddie Yu was the team's leader with 11 assists, posting four digs, and
Cora Cunningham posted three total rejections including one solo block. First-year
Bridget Lonergan also tallied kills on three of her first attempts Saturday, and
Claire Castor was 3-for-5 offensively, hitting .600 in addition to her five digs.Â
Ami Evans was Bates' leader offensively with four kills, and Ellie Asada finished with seven digs in the loss.Â
Tufts will return to Cousens Gymnasium on Friday, October 13 at 7:30 pm. for more NESCAC action as it entertains Williams College in Medford, MA.Â
