ITHACA, NY (December 3, 2023) -- First-year
Chloe Bergam earned a win at No. 9 for the Jumbo women's squash team Sunday at No. 9 Cornell University, but the Big Red were too much as No. 12 Tufts University was bested 8-1 in play from Belkin Squash Courts.
The Jumbos (2-2) played well despite the scoreline, as five matches went to four or five games while Bergam's win was in straight sets. Bergam picked up her second win of the campaign with a 11-7, 11-4 and 13-11 victory for the lone Jumbo win of the day.
In other action, sophomore No. 1
Vharsha Dinesh earned a win at the top spot in the opening game but Big Red No. 1 Wen Li Lai rallied to earn an 8-11, 11-6, 11-6 and 11-1 win. At No. 4, first-year
Maria Arsenieva rallied from down two games to none, but Cornell's Alysa Ali came back in the fifth to claim an 11-5, 11-9, 9-11, 13-15 and 11-5 win.
At No. 6, the match also went five games as
Nieve Monderer was unable to hold off a rally from Ania LaDow as the Big Red player earned a 4-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-3 and 11-9 victory. The No. 7 match was another thriller, as
Sanjana Vissapragada took the third game 11-8 but was topped in four 11-3, 11-9, 8-11 and 11-5.
Junior
Aleezah Burhan opened the match with an 11-6 win, but Christa Kay came back to post a 6-11, 11-6, 11-3 and 11-2 win at the No. 5 spot. In the other four matches, the Big Red were able to pick up wins in three games.
Tufts will be back in action Friday, December 8 at 5 p.m., taking on Connecticut College in the Tufts Squash Center.
