MEDFORD, MA (December 9, 2023) -- The No. 12 Tufts University women's squash team won the first six individual matches Saturday afternoon against No. 13 Amherst College, clinching the match early to earn a 7-2 win on Alumni Day in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from the Tufts Squash Center.
The first match to finish on the afternoon was at the No. 8 position, as captain
Ellyn Xu chalked up her fourth win of the year while moving to 4-2 with a 11-3, 11-2, 12-10 win over Blair Englert. The Tufts (4-2) lead would double to 2-0 on the day as junior standout
Riddhi Joshi displayed both beautiful shot-making ability and great endurance in a 7-11, 13-11, 11-7 and 11-4 win over Tanmai Pathak at the No. 2 spot.
First-year
Chloe Bergam was on the same court as Xu, but the result was the same for the Jumbos as Bergam upped her season mark to 3-1 with a 11-6, 11-8 and 11-6 win over Suraiya Khan Suri.
Caroline Chin picked up a win at No. 3 to push the Tufts lead to 4-0 thanks to an 11-9, 11-8, 4-11 and 11-6 win over Quincy Cline. The clinching point came from one of Tufts most seasoned and experienced players, as
Sanjana Vissapragada rolled to a 3-0 win over Maggie Pearson with scores od 11-5, 11-8 and 11-8 to earn the win for the hosts.
At the No. 1 position,
Vharsha Dinesh moved to 3-2 on the year with a 19-minute win over Alex Brown with a dominant 11-5, 11-2 and 11-4 win. Junior
Nieve Monderer was back in the win column as well for the Jumbos, as she displayed her all-around game in a 11-6, 11-7 and 11-3 win over Morgan Chaudhary at No. 6.
At No. 5,
Aleezah Burhan played a marathon match that went on for nearly an hour before falling to Callie Delalio 9-11, 8-11, 11-6, 12-10 and 13-11. First-year Maria Arseniev also was topped in five games by Yana Sharma.
It will be exactly one month before the Jumbos are back in action again, heading to Waterville, Maine to battle Colby on January 9, 2024 at 1 p.m. in more New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play.
