NEW YORK, NY (February 24, 2023) – Tufts University senior
Zach Lawrence placed fifth and sophomore
Cameron Yuen was seventh today in the one-meter diving competition at the NCAA Regional hosted by NYU.
In 11 dives at the meet, Lawrence finished with a score of 421.30 and Yuen came in at a 403.60 total. Williams College's Kobe Tray won the NCAA Regional one-meter title with a 474.94 score. A total of 15 divers participated.
The NYU Diving Regional was allocated four berths into the upcoming NCAA Championships, to be determined based on this weekend's Regional results. Today's one-meter results put both Jumbos outside of the qualifying area at the moment. They will compete in the three-meter event at the Regional tomorrow starting at noon.
For Lawrence today, a 50.70 score in his seventh dive of the meet – a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault Pike – was his best score and vaulted him from 12th place into fifth place at the time. That had been preceded by a Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike judged for 45.60 points in his first optional dive (sixth overall) of the round.
Yuen finished strong to move from 12th place after eight dives into seventh. His Back 1 1/2 Somersault Pike scored 42.55, followed by an Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike for 42.00 and then he finished with a Forward 1 Somersault 3 Twist Free for his best mark of 44.80.
This is the third NCAA Regional meet for Lawrence. He was fourth in both events last season and went on to earn Honorable Mention All-American performances off both boards at the NCAA meet. He was seventh in both events at the 2020 Regional. This weekend is the first NCAA Diving Regional for Yuen.
