Zach Lawrence finished seventh and sophomore
Cameron Yuen placed 11th.
In 11 dives this afternoon, Lawrence earned scores adding up to a 416.50 final. Yuen finished with a 385.15 score.
Just four berths into the upcoming NCAA Championships were allotted to the NYU Diving Regional due to the relatively small size of the competitive field. Today's three-meter event had 14 entries. Berths into the NCAA Championships are based upon this weekend's results, which puts Lawrence on the bubble in terms of whether he will be selected to move on to the national meet. The official announcement of NCAA qualifiers will be made on Monday.
Lawrence finished strong today to improve to his seventh-place final standing. He popped a 54.60 score with a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck in his eighth attempt. In his final dive – a Back 1 1/2 Somersault 2 1/2 Twist Free – he earned an excellent 49.00 score.
Yuen's final score was affected by a 0.0 score that he took in the ninth round. Attempting a very challenging reverse 2 1/2 somersaults dive, he came out a little bit early and was too short for it to be considered that he "made" the dive. Hence he was awarded zero points. However, he answered that with an outstanding Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck for a 58.80 total that was his best of the day.
Williams College's Kobe Tray won the three-meter Regional title today with a 537.20 score. He swept the weekend, taking the one-meter competition on Friday with a 474.95 score. Lawrence was fifth and Yuen was seventh for Tufts in one-meter on Friday.
This was the third NCAA Regional meet for Lawrence, and he was top 10 in each of the six events in his career at the meet. He was fourth in both events last season and went on to earn Honorable Mention All-American performances off both boards at the NCAA meet. He was seventh in both events at the 2020 Regional. Yuen performed well in his first NCAA Diving Regional this weekend.
