BOSTON (February 3, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's swimming and diving team traveled across town to Boston University Friday night, competing in the first of two days of action at the BU Winter Open, hosted at the BU Aquatics Center and Competition Pool.
Tufts saw its evening start with the 500 freestyle, and the Jumbos saw
Kapil Shetty finish fifth overall with a season and personal-best time of 4:43.40, besting his time from the Wesleyan Quad Meet a few weeks ago. Teammate Louis Demetriades also swam a season-best time in the event, touching the wall for sixth place with a time of 4:49.13.
In the 200 IM, the Jumbos had a pair of swimmers compete and
Luke Hruska and
Sean Carr took third and fourth, respectively in the event. Hruska was third after swimming a 1:57.10, a season-best time, while Carr was right behind him with a season-best 1:59.14. Tufts would have
Alex Gu pace the squad in the 50 freestyle, as he raced to a fourth-place, personal-best time of 20.90.
Michael Damelio was ninth overall in the 50 free, as he clocked in with a 21.67, just eclipsing his previous season-best time.
In the 3-meter diving event, Tufts had four competitors as
Cameron Yuen paced the quartet with a personal-best six-dive score of 270.00 for third place.
Kai Renshaw finished in fourth with a score of 262.35, also a season-best point total, while
Ethan Cobos was fifth with a new season-best score of 255.55.
Jacob Morales joined in with a new season-best total of 235.10 for sixth place Friday.
The busier second day of action at the BU Winter Open will get underway at 1:30 p.m. with the first session while the second session of Saturday's competition will begin at 7 p.m. The full meet schedule can be found
