GREENSBORO, NC (March 15, 2023) - Senior Peter LaBarge had an All-American finish and sophomore Eric Lundgren broke a school record as the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team started at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday.
LaBarge had his All-American (top eight) swim in the 50 freestyle, timing 19.98 in the prelims and then 20.02 for fifth place in the final. Freshman Armaan Sikka also qualified in the event and had a 20.80 in the prelims.
In the first Jumbo men's event of the day, Lundgren broke a six-year old school record in the 200 IM with his 1:48.92 preliminary time. Zachary Wallace at the 2017 NCAA meet had the previous school standard (1:49.82). Tonight Lundgren finished 14th in the final (1:49.48) for honorable mention All-America recognition. Freshman Jack Madden was also an entry in the event and swam a 1:54.04 preliminary mark.
Seeded second in the 200 medley relay today, the Jumbos were disqualified in the preliminaries due to an early take-off and did not score in the event.
LaBarge and Lundgren combined to score 16.5 team points, which has the Jumbos 16th through one day at the meet. For Thursday, the Tufts men will have swimmers in the 200 freestyle relay, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay.
