Jumbos Post 15 Goal Scorers In 23-9 Win Over Trinity (CT) Saturday

MEDFORD, MA (March 25, 2023) -- The No. 1 ranked Tufts University men's lacrosse team used a big first half to defeat Trinity College, 23-9, and remain undefeated, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from Bello Field. 

The Jumbos (7-0, 3-0 NESCAC) scored eight goals in both the first and second quarters to lead 16-3 at halftime. Charlie Tagliaferri got the scoring started for Tufts less than three minutes into the contest as Ben Frisoli scored his fifth of the season less than 10 seconds later to make it 2-0 Tufts.

Tufts would score the next three goals as Cam Delcristo, Kurt Bruun, and Jack Regnery all found the back of the next with Jack Boyden assisting Bruun and Regnery. Bruun added two more tallies before the end of the quarter as Tufts led 8-1 after the first 15 minutes.

The goals kept coming to start the second quarter as Boyden scored his 25th of the season of the nice assist from Callum Wood to make it 9-1 Tufts. After an Ethan Cobb goal for Trinity, the Jumbos scored 24 seconds apart as this time it was Ethan O'Neill and Delcristo. Tufts had two man-up opportunities late in the quarter that saw Tommy Swank and Kevin Christmas convert as Tufts would lead 16-3 going into halftime. 

Tufts poured in four more goals in the third quarter, outshooting Trinity 16-8 in the period. The Jumbos would get two goals from Swank and a goal from Sam Frisoli and Max Ettinghausen to lead 20-4 after three quarters. The fourth quarter saw goals from Declan Murphy, Louis Timmins, and Liam Nestor, who scored his first goal of the season as the Jumbos finished off the victory.

Boyden finished the day with three goals and seven assists. It was the fifth game of the season for Boyden with 10 or more points, as he sits with 68 points through seven games. 

Bruun led the way in goals with four and added two assists for six points in the contest. Bruun scooped up three ground balls.  

Swank posted three goals and two ground balls, while Delcristo scored two goals. 

Kyle Adelmann finished with three caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Joey Waldbaum and Braun Lippe also added two forced turnovers. Along with his two forced turnovers, Waldbaum had four ground balls. 

Freshman Victor Salcedo dominated at the face-off "X," going 10-of-14 with three ground balls for the Jumbos, with senior Mason Kohn going 9-of-12 with seven ground balls. Conner Garzone made 10 stops in net to earn the win. Cody Wiebe, Shane Molloy, and Eugene Yoon all came in to help close out the game. 

Tufts outshot the visitors 66-35 on the night, while forcing 17 turnovers by the Bantams (3-4). Tufts picked up 56 ground balls during the game, while holding Trinity off the board in their two chances with the man-up. Tufts was nearly perfect on clears going 28-29 during the game.

Jon Krikorian scored three goals and added one assist on the afternoon, while Cobb had two goals and had one assist. Cooper Yaccino finished the game saving 20 shots. 

The Jumbos will be back on the road in non-conference action as they travel to Schenectedy, NY to take on No. 5 Union College Tuesday evening at 6 P.M.
