Women's Tennis Falls At No. 3 MIT Friday, 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, MA (April 14, 2023) -- The No. 8 Tufts University women's tennis team saw its four-match win streak come to an end on Friday afternoon, as the Jumbos were topped by No. 3 Massachusetts Institute of Technology 7-2 in a non-conference contest from DuPont Tennis Courts on a gorgeous spring day.

The Engineers (9-3) were able to take a 3-0 lead after doubles, as Jessica Lu and Sarah Pertsemlidis teamed up to knock off Madeline Suk and Rachel Cranley 8-1 to put MIT up 1-0. The home team would add on to its advantage at No. 3 doubles, as Lucy Mitchell and Stephanie Woodbury were edged by Artemis Pados and Seraphin Castelino 8-6. The final doubles match to finish up was at No. 2 doubles, as MIT's Alaina Kolli and Caroline Vincent were able to outlast Sophie Wax and Zoe Kava 8-7.

The Jumbos (6-7) got into the win column early on in singles' action, as Suk won her third match in the last four with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Castelino at No. 5 singles. Suk is now 5-1 at the No. 5 position in 2023. The Engineers tacked on another victory to lead 4-1 after Pertsemlidis knocked off Wax 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, and Vincent clinched the match at No. 2 for MIT with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Cranley.

Tufts picked up their second win of the afternoon with a win at No. 4 singles, as Mitchell won her fifth straight match while staying undefeated in April with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory.

The Jumbos will return to play Saturday at home, hosting Trinity College (CT) Saturday at 2 p.m. in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play form South Courts.
