Women's Tennis Victorious Over Conn. College On Senior Day

SOMERVILLE, MA (April 16, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day in style on Sunday afternoon, as the squad honored its five seniors with a 9-0 victory over Connecticut College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from the South Courts.

The contributions from the seniors were felt in full force on Sunday, as the four healthy seniors all posted a pair of victories. The first victory of the day for the Jumbos (8-7, 8-2 NESCAC) came at No. 2 doubles, as first-years Lucy Mitchell and Stephanie Woodbury cruised to an 8-1 win over Courtney Banks and Lily Kerachsky 8-1.

The senior tandem of Kennedy May and Casey Cummings moved to 2-0 on the spring, as they knocked off Anna Slopak and Kinley Yanghen 8-1 to double Tufts' lead. The final victory in doubles came at the No. 1 position, as Rachel Cranley teamed with senior Madeline Suk for an 8-2 win.

The Jumbos saw Rebecca Lim earn a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to move to 7-8 overall on the season. The clinching win came at No. 2 for the Jumbos, as Suk won 6-0, 6-0 to push her win total in 2023 to double digits. Cummings also won all 12 games she played at No. 3 singles, knocking off Kerachsky 6-0, 6-0.

Senior Michelle Shub topped Caroline Champa 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 for her first singles victory of the season on Senior Day. May also picked up her first singles' triumph this season, rolling past Ella Griffiths 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 to finish off the Sunday sweep.

Tufts has now won six of their last seven matches, five of those victories coming in the NESCAC.

The Jumbos will have a few days off before hosting No. 4 Wesleyan University next Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. in the regular season finale on South Courts.
