CLINTON, NY (April 2, 2023) -- The best start in program history continued on Sunday afternoon in Clinton, NY, as the No. 4 ranked Jumbos of Tufts University upped their record to an unblemished 10-0 and 5-0 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with a 7-2 win over Hamilton College from the Tietje Family Tennis Center.
The Jumbos sit atop the NESCAC standings midway through conference play, as only Bowdoin College (3-0) and Colby College (2-0) are still unbeaten in league play.
Tufts gained a quick 3-0 lead in doubles thanks to sweeping the pairs play, upping their mark to a sterling 22-8 in doubles this spring season.
Josh Belandres and
Rishabh Sharda moved up to No. 1 for the first time this season and knocked off Coby Feldman and Connor Griff 8-6. At No. 2 doubles,
Alex Ganchev and
Jack Moldenhauer upped their record together to 7-3 and 5-0 in NESCAC play with an 8-3 victory.
In the final doubles match of the day,
Sacha Maes and
Corey Marley picked up their first win of the 2023 portion of the season with an 8-2 win at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Sharda played No. 2 on Sunday and knocked off Anson Anderson 6-3, 6-0 to up his record to 5-4 on the season. Belandres was a double-winner Sunday with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles to win his sixth consective match, and
Lachie Macintosh knocked off Matt Bartok 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
Aarush Ganji also moved to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win at No. 6.
Tufts will continue its nine-match road swing next weekend, heading to Maine to battle Bowdoin College April 7 at 3 p.m. before taking on Colby College Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m. in Waterville, ME.
