WALTHAM (April 27, 2023) -- The Tufts University baseball team ran its winning streak to 12 games on Wednesday evening on a cold, rainy night at Brandeis University, topping the host Judges 8-7 in non-conference action from Stein Diamond.
The win streak is the longest since the Jumbos won 14 in a row back in 2011, as Tufts (24-6) scored the game's opening run in the top of the first on a RBI single from
Jimmy Evans to score
Jesse McCullough after his one-out double.
Tufts added two more in the top of the third, as McCullough singled home
Ozzie Fleischer to make it 2-0. Evans followed a batter later to up the Jumbos lead to 3-0 with a fielder's choice. Brandeis got two runs back in the bottom of the third, but
John Fritz came around to score after leading off the top of the fourth with a hit to make it 4-2.
The Judges deadlocked the game in the bottom half of the fourth with two runs, but Tufts responded with two of its own in the top half of the fifth on a
Connor Flavin single and a
Patrick Solomon bases loaded walk.
Tufts added two more in the seventh, and fought off a late rally from the Judges in the ninth to secure the win.
McCullough continued his hot hitting of late with a 3-for-5 game Wednesday, scoring twice and driving in a run. McCullough has five straight multi-hit games, and has 12 hits in his last 21 at-bats.
Henry Fleckner was 2-for-4 with a run, stolen base and RBI, and Fritz was 1-for-3 with two runs and two walks.
On the hill,
