MEDFORD, MA (July 12, 2023) -- Recently USRowing announced the Para Rowing boards for the 2023 World Rowing Championships, and Tufts University now-sophomore
Alex Flynn was selected as part of the PR3 mixed four that will represent the United States in Belgrade, Serbia on September 3-10 this fall.
The two PR3 crews were selected through the PR3 selection camp held on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., which just wrapped up during the last week of June. Flynn's PR3 mixed four boat with coxswain will include Saige Harper (Sacred Heart University) and coxswain Emilie Eldracher (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), who return from last year's boat that finished fifth at the world championships along with Flynn. They will be joined by national team newcomers Ben Washburne (Williams College) and Skylar Dahl (University of Virginia).
"This year's squad is a strong combination of experienced veterans and very promising newcomers," said Para High Performance Director Ellen Minzner. "I am excited to see how they will evolve over the next couple of months and through next year in the lead-up to the Paralympic Games."
The PR3 crews got their first international test July 8-9 at the
2023 Para Rowing Regatta to Paris on the Olympic/Paralympic course in Vaires-sur-Marne, France.
"It's a huge accomplishment, not to mention a testament to his toughness and ability to persevere, for Alex to make back to back senior teams," said Tufts University head men's rowing coach
George Munger. "He trains and races hard, and I'm excited to see what he and his boatmates accomplish this fall at the World Championships."
Flynn competed last season as a first-year member of the Tufts rowing squad, racing in the 4V8 boat during the varsity season in the spring.
