Men's Soccer Blanks Salem State 4-0 For Road Win

SALEM, MA (September 19, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in both halves Tuesday evening on the road at Salem State University, knocking off the host Vikings 4-0 in action from Alumni Field.

The Jumbos (3-1-1) dominated the action on the evening, outshooting their hosts 37-6 on the night while holding a 26-4 edge in shots on goal. The shot total was the most in a game for the Jumbos since firing 39 against Colby College on October 28, 2018.

Tufts got on the board in the 19th minute of the contest Tuesday, as Woovin Shin posted his second goal of the season as he tapped in a cross from Mateo Bargagna on the back post for the 1-0 lead.

The Jumbo lead doubled in the 39th minute, as a cross into the box was handled by a Viking defender resulting in a penalty kick. Taylor Feinberg stepped up and buried the resulting penalty for his team-leading third goal of the season as the Jumbos went into halftime up a pair of scores.

The goals continued to come in the second half for the Jumbos, as Sean Traynor scored in the 68th minute as he pounced on a rebound of a Ethan Feigin shot and slotted it home for a 3-0 Jumbo lead.

The final goal of the game came from sophomore Daniel Yanez, who buried the second penalty kick goal of the night for the Jumbos to finish the night's scoring. It was the first goal of the season for Yanez.

Tufts held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks, while Traynor led all players with seven shots including five shots on goal. Yanez added four shots on goal while Mason Shultz also tallied four shots on target in the win. Sophomroe Nikola Antic made three saves, while first-year keeper Zach Ubamadu also recorded one stop in the combined shutout.

Tufts will have a few days off before hosting Hamilton College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at 1:30 p.m. for Homecoming Saturday afternoon on Bello Field.
