Box Score MEDFORD, MA (September 23, 2023) – The Tufts University men's soccer team rolled over Hamilton College in an impressive 3-0 win during a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup from Bello Field in Medford, MA on a chilling homecoming Saturday afternoon. Today's win adds to their dominant form following Tuesday's 4-0 win over Salem State, advancing their win streak to two.
There were different contributions from each Jumbo goal today, as senior forward
Sean Traynor initiated scoring for the Jumbos, and senior defender
Max Clivio, and junior midfielder
Ethan Feigin both added their names to today's scoring tally.
Sophomore keeper
Nikola Antic took care of business between the posts today for the Jumbos, as his five saves were enough to keep the Hamilton College Continentals out of the score sheet. His clean sheet adds to his season shutout totals, bringing his season's total to three, as the Jumbo's record increases to 4-1-1 following today's win.
Traynor initiated scoring for both teams in the 15
th minute, following sophomore midfielder
Daniel Yanez' through ball from just inside his own defensive half. Yanez's midfield pass split the Hamilton back line as it found the right foot of the cutting Traynor who took one touch to settle it, and another to rifle it past the senior Hamilton keeper Kai Haesslein, as Traynor lifted the Jumbos up one to nothing just 15 minutes into the first half.
The remainder of the first half didn't have any more goals from each side, however, both the Jumbos and the Continentals had their fair share of chances throughout the first 45 minutes. Hamilton outshot Tufts by one shot (eight – nine) and made an additional save over the Jumbos (three – two). However, the Jumbos were able to produce an additional corner over the Continentals (three – two), showcasing the offensive back-and-forth between the two teams throughout the first half.
Following the break, the Jumbos kicked off to begin with control to start the second half. From there, the Jumbos continued to gradually heat up despite the chilly conditions.
The second Jumbos' goal on the day was scored off the head of Clivio, as his header came off the perfect cross sent in by the senior midfielder
Liam Gerken, who routed the ideal cross from the left wing into the back post to find a leaping Clivio, and lifted the Jumbos lead to two goals to zero.
Another Gerken cross, this time from the right wing produced the third and final goal on the day. As it settled into the box, the ball came down untouched on the first hop, then deflected by a Hamilton defender. The deflection found the feet of Feigin, whose initial shot was blocked, yet his determination picked him up back to his feet as his second strike found the side netting to finish the chance for the Jumbos.
Final stats tell the story of the second half. Tufts outshot Hamilton 14 to 18 on the day (five to eight on target), as well as producing eight corners on the day compared to Hamilton's three.
Tufts University men's soccer improves to 4-1-1 on the season (1-1-1 NESCAC) as Hamilton College falls to 1-3-2 (1-1-1 NESCAC) on the season. The Jumbos resume action tomorrow, Sunday, September 24
