MEDFORD, MA (September 23, 2023) -- Visiting Hamilton College posted a goal in the 81st minute, as the Tufts University women's soccer squad was forced to split the points in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) match Saturday on Homecoming 2023 on Bello Field.
The Jumbos (3-2-1, 1-2-1 NESCAC) and Continentals played a very even game throughout, as the squads both posted 13 shots and four corner kicks on the contest. Tufts had the early run of play, as shots from
Caroline Kelly and
Erin Duncan were stopped by Continental keeper Nieve Tonna.
The breakthrough for the Jumbos would come in the 32nd minute, as
Thalia Greenberg scored on an assist from
Emily Nicholas to put the Jumbos up 1-0. On the play, Greenberg's chance was saved by popped up and carried into the net for the score.
Tufts had multiple chances to add onto its lead but Hamilton would equalize in the 81st minute, as a corner kick was headed into the right side of the net by Maddie Ledbury to knot the game at one.
Tufts had another solid attempt in the 86th minute, but a Duncan shot was stopped by Tonna as the contest ended in a draw. Senior
Nicola Sommers led the way with three shots for the Jumbos, while Duncan posted two shots on goal for the hosts.
Gigi Edwards made five saves for Tufts as well in net.
Erin Rayhill took four attempts for the Continentals, while Olivia Morrow fired three shots with two finishing on net. Tonna topped eight shots for Hamilton (3-0-3, 1-0-3 NESCAC).
The Jumbos will head to Hartford, CT tomorrow afternoon at 2 o.m. in more conference play against Trinity College.
