MEDFORD, MA (January 14, 2023) – The Jumbo women's fencing team hosted Northwestern University, Cornell University and Wellesley College in the Tufts Invitational today at the Gantcher Center.
Tufts had a 1-2 record for the day, defeating Wellesley 14-13 in their first match and losing 21-6 to both Cornell and Northwestern.
Now with a 13-12 record overall, the Jumbos had wins in foil and sabre to top Wellesley. In the 6-3 score for sabre, first-year

Anat Katz and sophomore
Alexia Newell all won two out of three. The Jumbos won foil 5-4 with junior
Shannon Chen and senior
Sydnee Lau winning twice each. Junior
Ayelet Book won two bouts in epee.
The Jumbos lost a close sabre competition 5-4 against Cornell. First-year
Nitika Subramanian won twice. Chen also had two victories for Tufts in foil.
In their third match of the day versus Northwestern, Lau won twice in foil and Chioldi earned two victories in sabre.
For the three matches total, Chioldi led Tufts with five wins in seven matches for .714 success. Chen's winning record of 5-4 calculated to a .556 winning percentage. Lau recorded four total wins in foil.
Tufts competes next at the Eric Sollee Invitational hosted by Brandeis University on January 27.
