MEDFORD, MA (January 27, 2024) - The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash team needed all nine matches Saturday as they bested NESCAC foe No. 15 Williams College 5-4 at the Tufts Squash Center.
The Jumbos (8-4) battled the Ephs in a classic back-and-forth squash match. The Jumbos started the day at the No. 1 spot with sophomore
Vharsha Dinesh who squared off against Sophia Koehler. Dinesh won the match in four sets 12-10, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5, putting the Jumbos on the board early. At the No. 2 spot freshman
Maria Arsenieva fell short in a close five-set match to Melanie Wang 5-11, 9-11, 11-5, 13-11, 11-7. At the No. 3 spot, Junior
Riddhi Joshi took care of business besting Rachel Miller in three sets 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.
The Ephs would go on to win the No. 4 and 5 match both in five sets as Theresa Kay would go on to win against senior
Caroline Chin 11-7, 4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, and Junior
Aleezah Burhan was bested by Williams Rhea Pandit 10-12, 11-7, 11-2, 8-11, 11-5. The Jumbos would answer right back as Junior
Nieve Monderer would go on to best Anika Kakarla in four sets at the No. 6 spot 3-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9. At the No. 7 spot,
Sanjana Vissapragada was bested in three sets by N.Jefferson-Sambanis 13-11, 11-6, 11-5
With the Ephs leading the Jumbos 4-3 going into the final two matches of the day, the Jumbos would call on senior
Ellyn Xu at the No. 8 spot. Xu dropped the first two sets but was able to fight back and win the last three sets of the match against Nora Brant 3-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-3. For Xu, the win gives her a team-leading eight wins on the season. With the competition tied the Jumbos would head into the No. 9 spot with freshman
Chloe Bergam who was able to best Deena Iqbal in a quick three-set match to secure the victory for the Jumbos.
The Jumbos women's squash team will return to action on Sunday, January 28, at 1 pm to take on No. 20 Middlebury College at the Tufts Squash Center in Medford Mass.
