Sailors Advance to Quarterfinals at NEISA Match Racing Championship

NEW LONDON, CT (October 12, 2024) - The Tufts University sailing team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NESA) Match Racing Championship before they were eliminated on Saturday.

Match racing is arguably the simplest form of racing. It is one boat against the other and the first to finish wins.

The nine total teams at the event competed in a round-robin to get the action started. They Jumbos defeated Boston College and Bowdoin College, but lost to Brown, Coast Guard, Harvard, Mass Maritime, Roger Wililams and Yale. That placed Tufts eighth after the round-robin, advancing to the quarterfinals to face the top team from the round robin in Harvard (7-1 record in round robin).

In the best two out of three quarterfinal, Harvard defeated Tufts 2-0. Boston College, Coast Guard and Yale also advanced to the semifinals. A finals and petite finals will also be held on Sunday.

Tufts' team at the NEISA Match Racing Championship was Jack Flores, Courtland Doyle, Maisie MacGillivray, and Matt Caplan.
