Medford, MA (October 19, 2024) - The Tufts University volleyball team fell to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a 3-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference match at Cousens Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21.
The Jumbos (9-9, 6-3 NESCAC) hit for 14 kills in the first set, but it wouldn't be enough as the Polar Bears (10-7, 3-5 NESCAC) managed to hit .182 in the opener. The visiting side made only two errors in that first set.
Sophomore
Emma Heckman led the way for the Jumbos offense, as she hit for a .222 hitting percentage with a team-high eight kills. The opposite hitter also managed to dig four balls, tied for third highest on the team in the three set effort.
Graduate student
Christine Audette was a consistent force at the net and the service line, providing four kills and two aces in the match. The outside hitter's efforts were joined by sophomore
Claire Castor, who tallied six kills.
The third set saw the best offensive performance of the day for Tufts. They hit for 15 kills in the third set alone, but were ultimately matched by 15 kills from the Polar Bears.
The Jumbos defense was anchored by sophomore
Rianna Liu, who tallied 13 digs on the day. Freshman
Matsa Shi also earned eight digs, second highest on the team.
The Jumbos ultimately fell to the Polar Bears after a strong third set performance by the visitors. They face a loaded weekend ahead at the New England Invitational starting with a match Friday versus Springfield College at Cousens Gymnasium starting at 6:00 PM.
