CAMBRIDGE, MA (October 20, 2024) - The Tufts University men's rowing first varsity finished sixth out of 42 teams in the Collegiate Eights event at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbo second varsity eight was also a strong 16th in the race.
Tufts' 1V8, the defending champion in the race, recorded a time of 14:56.143 over the three-mile course on the Charles River. The Jumbos were second among Division III teams, with Trinity College edging Tufts among DIII schools with a 14:56.055 mark. LaSalle University won the Larry Gluckman Memorial Trophy as men's Collegiate Eights champions with a 14:33.565 finish. MIT (Division I in rowing), Holy Cross and Drexel also finished with faster times than Trinity and Tufts.
The Jumbo second varsity's 15:18.049 time was second-fastest among second boats in the event. Only Temple University had its second eight ahead of the Jumbos.
Rivals Wesleyan University, who won the IRA Division III national championship last spring, and Williams College, who tied for second with Tufts at the IRAs, were behind the Jumbos today. Williams was in seventh place (14:57.143) and Wesleyan was 15th (15:17.482).

Today's action was the last of the fall rowing season. The Jumbos will return to the water in the spring.
