BETHLEHEM, PA (October 5, 2024) – The 19th-ranked Tufts University men's cross country team placed an outstanding third out of 41 teams at the 50th Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday.
Competing in the Men's College White 8K race versus DIII schools, the Jumbos had all five of their scorers finish in the top 30 among 373 individual finishers overall. With a 114 final score, Tufts was behind only #18 SUNY Geneseo (75) and #6 NYU (89). The Jumbos finished in front of the fourth-place University of Lynchburg (#17 in national rankings) and NESCAC rivals Middlebury College and Amherst College who were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Tufts senior
Alex Friedman continued his strong season by finishing under 25 minutes in an 8K for the first time in his career. His 24:56.2 mark was 11th overall. Also among the top 20 for the Jumbos were junior
Luke Brennan (25:06.0) in 18th and sophomore
Jonah Reisner (25:08.3) in 20th. The mark was an 8K PR for Reisner.
Scoring fourth for Tufts was junior
Calvin Cummings in 28th place with a 25:15.4 finish. The fifth and final scorer for the Jumbos was sophomore
Avery Smart, who came across the line in a 25:19.7 PR for 37th place.
Junior Jumbo
Quinn Hampson was right on Smart's tail with a 25:20.1 mark that was 38th in the field. The seventh Jumbo finisher today was junior
Amokrane Aouchiche with a 25:26.7 time (47th).
Tufts took 10 runners to Pennsylvania overall. Sophomore
Jacob Fippin PR'd in 25:35.4, while freshmen
Gabe Grove (26:09.4) and
Aidan Max (26:27.9) were also in action.
The Jumbos will be at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship race in Hopkinton, New Hampshire next Saturday.
