HARTFORD, CT (October 6, 2024) - The Tufts University men's rowing team opened its 2024-25 year on Sunday morning at the Head of the Riverfront on the Connecticut River in Hartford. Five Tufts eights raced in the Men's Open 8+ event.
The Jumbo first varsity completed the 2.5 mile course in a 14:32.89 time that was second out of 25 teams in the event. Tufts was behind only the Riverside Boat Club, which timed 14:32.91 to edge the Jumbos by less than a second. The Jumbos were first among collegiate eight teams. The Tufts team was coxswain

Tufts also earned the bronze in the race with a 14:49.77 mark by its second varsity.

The Jumbo third varsity of coxswain

Abe Nelson,
Justin Sun and
Hayden Stone combined for a 15:19.72 finish. They were 2.66 seconds out of the top five.
Tufts' 4V8 was 10th in the race (15:40.83) and the fifth varsity was 13th (15:52.82). The fourth varsity lineup was coxswain

The Jumbos will compete in the Head of the Kevin on the Charles River next Saturday leading up to the Head of the Charles the following weekend.
