ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 6, 2024) - The Tufts University coed sailing team improved two spots on Sunday to finish an important ninth place out of 18 teams at an Atlantic Coast Championship (ACC) qualifying regatta at the U.S. Naval Academy.
The Jumbos were in 11th place after Saturday's racing and needed to be among the top nine teams following Sunday's second day of racing in order to advance to the Atlantic Coast Championship finals. With strong performances in A and B divisions today, the Jumbos moved up to ninth place and qualified to compete at the ACC finals to be hosted by Boston College October 19-20.
For 18 races in the two divisions overall during the weekend, the Jumbos compiled finishes totaling to 133 in A's and 159 in B's for a 292 final score score.

Rees Tindall were particularly excellent on Sunday. They were among the top five in seven of their eight races on Sunday including a first, two seconds and a third. Tufts' pair took fifth in A division for the weekend, winning a head-to-head tie-breaker against College of Charleston to do so. They improved from their 11th-place spot after Saturday's racing.

Cindy Wang handled all eight B division races on Sunday. They were third in the third race of the day, and also had a fourth and two fifths. Tufts finished 11th in B's.
Brown University won the ACC qualifier with a 100-95-195 scoring line. Boston College, Roger Williams, Charleston, Navy, Stanford, Bowdoin and Yale joined Tufts as the other teams to qualify for the upcoming ACC Championship.
