Hockey Splits Opening Weekend After 6-3 Loss at Trinity

HARTFORD, CT (November 16, 2024) – The Tufts University men's hockey team earned a split of its season-opening weekend following a 6-3 loss at #4 Trinity College on Saturday afternoon.

Tufts had defeated Wesleyan University 5-3 on Friday night. The Bantams dropped a 4-2 contest to Connecticut College on Friday night. Both teams are now 1-1 overall and in the conference following today's result.

The host Bantams scored just 51 seconds into the game when Alexander Mozian took a pass at the right blue line and sent Connor Sedlak in alone for a 1-0 Trinity lead.

A miscue behind the Jumbo net led to the next Bantam goal, as David Paluch picked up a loose puck with Tufts goalie Gus Bylin out of position and sent it out front to Aidan D'Urso who had an empty net to shoot it into for a 2-0 score seven minutes into the game.

Tufts would get on the board before the period closed. After defenseman Philippe Lamarre hit the post with a shot, Harrison Bazianos tapped the rebound to Max Resnick behind the net and he skated out front and scored with 6:03 on the clock.

That would be the closest Tufts would get. The Bantams scored twice 31 seconds apart to take a 4-1 advantage in the second period. Ty Broad tucked one in during a Bantam rush at 8:04, then Mozian from a similar spot at 8:35 made it 4-1.

Tufts would twice get within two goals on tallies by senior Tyler Sedlak. Bazianos dropped a pass to Sedlak entering the Trinity zone and he snapped a shot past Bantam goalie Devon Bobak at 11:17 for a 4-2 score. However, Trinity was able to answer a minute and a half later when James Barbour stuck one inside the right post on a power play.

The Jumbos got within 5-3 on another Sedlak goal 4:39 into the third period. On a power play after a face-off win by Resnick, Cole Dubicki set up Sedlak for a one-timer from the left circle and he scored.

However, Trinity responded quickly again with a flukey goal. When Kevin Mackay dumped one in from the left point, a Tufts player tried to glove the puck, but it deflected off him and past Bylin for a 6-3 Trinity advantage at 6:03.

Brothers Connor and Tyler Sedlak combined for five points in the game with Trinity's Connor recording a goal and two assists, and Tufts' Tyler scoring twice. Tufts' Bazianos (two assists) and Bantams Mozian and Broad (goal and assist each) had multi-point games.

Trinity outshot Tufts 31-29 with Bobak making 26 saves and Bylin stopping 25.

The Jumbos will open their home schedule next weekend at Valley Forum against Williams College and Middlebury College.
