MEDFORD, MA (November 17, 2024) – The Tufts University men's cross country team was announced today as an at-large qualifier for the 2024 NCAA Division III Championship following their runner-up performance at the NCAA East Regional yesterday.
For the second straight season, the Jumbos placed second at the East Regional on Saturday in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. The finish yesterday matches last year as Tufts' best showing at the Regional since the Jumbos won the race in 2005. Today, Tufts was selected as one of the nation's 22 at-large berths into the DIII national championship.
The 2024 NCAA Championship Race will be held next Saturday (Nov. 23) at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is hosting the NCAA Championships, and the men's race will start at 12 noon Eastern time.
The NCAA team berth is the fourth straight and 19th overall for Tufts Men's Cross Country. In the 18 prior appearances, Tufts has posted six national top 10 finishes with a best of fifth place in 2005.
All seven Jumbos who ran yesterday earned All-Region honors for finishing in the top 35 individually. All seven were among the top 21 overall out of 229 finishers in fact. Junior
Amokrane Aouchiche was sixth, junior
Calvin Cummings was seventh, senior
Alex Friedman was 15th, sophomore
Jonah Reisner was 16th, sophomore
Harris Gulbransen was 17th, junior
Quinn Hampson was 18th and junior
Luke Brennan was 21st.

Jamie Norton and his staff will confirm the team's starting line-up for the NCAA finals this week leading up to the race.
Aouchiche, Brennan and Friedman have run in two previous NCAA Championship races for the Jumbos (2022, 2023 for Aouchiche and Brennan; 2023, 2021 for Friedman), while Hampson started for Tufts at 2023 NCAA's and Cummings was on the 2022 Jumbo NCAA team.
