MANCHESTER, CT (September 6, 2025) – Finishing his first race in two years after dealing with injuries, Tufts University Men's Cross Country senior
Cullen McCaleb won Trinity College's George Suitor Invitational today to lead the Jumbos to a first-place team finish.
McCaleb completed the five-kilometer course at Wickham Park in a 16:16.90 time for an eight-second victory over runner-up Ellis Iurilli-Hough from Connecticut College (16:24.90). McCaleb hadn't finished a cross country start for the Jumbos since the 2023 NESCAC Championship.
The Jumbos had their five scoring runners in the top 11 today to win the team title with a score of 34. They withstood a challenge from Connecticut College, who finished with a 38 team score. Host Trinity was third (83).
Junior
Sam Kurian was second for the Jumbos today and fourth overall in a 16:40.10 mark. Scoring third for Tufts was junior
Simon Donovan with a 16:56.20 finish for eighth place. Junior
Meba Henok's 17:00.40 was 10th overall and freshman
Chris Hovet ran 17:01.00 for 11th place to round out Tufts' scoring.
From there the Jumbos had six of the next 10 finishers as they put 11 individuals in the top 21 overall. Sophomore
Gabe Grove (17:01.30) was 12th among 100 total finishers in the race. Freshmen Benjamin Hester (17:06.70),
Liam Lucas (17:06.70) and
Charlie Jacques (17:08.00) crossed the finish line 15th through 17th, respectively. Freshman
Chris Barbato was also in the top 20 with a 17:12.50 mark.
Sophomore
Lucas Klein was just outside the top 20 with his 17:13.40 for 21st place. Junior
Ryder Want in 28th (17:26.10), sophomore
Lucas Chang in 31st (17:31.90), junior
Charlie Krebs 37th (17:40.10), freshman
Jack Moretta 42nd (17:50.80) and senior
Matt Burdulis in 48th (17:57.80) also finished in the top half of the race for the Jumbos.
Tufts returns to action in two weeks at Williams College's Purple Valley Classic.
