MEDFORD, MA (November 20, 2024) - Six Tufts University players have earned spots on the 2024 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The Jumbos receiving the honor are junior
Elsi Aires, senior
Jordan Cushner, junior
Caroline Kelly, senior
Caroline O'Neill, senior
Nicola Sommers and junior
Lena Sugrue. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be an All-Conference caliber player with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's games or started at least two-thirds of the team's contests.
Aires (biology major) and Sommers (economics) at forward, Kelly (biomedical engineering) at midfield and Cushner (clinical psychology), O'Neill (economics) and Sugrue (civil engineering) on defense helped head coach
Martha Whiting's Tufts team to a 14-4-1 record this fall. The Jumbos were the #24 team nationally in the final NPI rankings and played into the NCAA Tournament second round.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Certain Academic All-District® honorees are selected by a committee to advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on December 11.
