Hockey Comes Back for Dramatic Shootout Win Versus Babson

MALDEN, MA (November 26, 2024) – Max Resnick scored with 27 seconds left in the third period to tie the game at 3-3, then after a scoreless overtime Tufts won the first shootout in Jumbo hockey history 2-0 to take two points against Babson College in non-league action Tuesday night at Valley Forum.

The visiting Beavers had leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before the final minute of regulation. With Tufts goalie Gus Bylin pulled for an extra man, the Jumbos capitalized when Resnick scored on a rebound to tie the game at 3-3.

After an uneventful overtime that saw Babson put the only shot on goal, Tyler Sedlak and Cole Dubicki scored in the shootout and Bylin stopped both Babson attempts to give the Jumbos the win.

The game goes down as a 3-3 tie which moves the Jumbos to 2-2-1 overall and Babson to a 4-3-1 record.

The Beavers took a 1-0 lead when Will Holland picked off a pass at center ice and got it across to Sam Sibold into the Tufts end. He zipped a pass left across the zone to Sean Senier who scored at 13:47.

Tufts tied the game 1-1 at the mid-point of the second period after forcing a turnover with great forechecking by the line of Jon Horn, Brennan Horn and Trace Norwell. Brennan Horn sent the puck out to Jameson Klein at the right point and he skated in slowly a slid the puck through traffic into the net for his first collegiate goal.

Babson retook the lead at 12:40 of the second period on a blast from the right point by Brendan Murphy and would go into the third period up 2-1.

However, Tufts tied the score again with a good forecheck keeping the puck in the Babson end. Bryceon Lago put a shot on goal from the right point and Marcus Sang swept in the loose puck from the right post at 3:36 of the third for a 2-2 score.

Less than three minutes later Babson regained its third lead of the game on a powerplay. Wyatt George was open at the left post to score on the rebound of a shot from the blue line by Holland with 10 seconds left in the man-advantage.

The Jumbos pulled Bylin with two minutes remaining in the third and got the game-tying goal from Resnick off the rebound of a shot by John Mulvihill.

In the shootout, Sedlak and Dubicki scored on Tufts' first two shots against Babson goalie Mason Rosado, and Bylin had saves on the Beavers' two attempts to end the best-of-three contest.

Shots finished at 42-41 in favor of the Jumbos. Bylin made 38 saves in the Tufts net and Rosato stopped 39 shots for Babson. The Beavers scored on one of four power-play attempts, while the Jumbos were 0 for 5.

After the Thanksgiving holiday, the Jumbos will travel to the North Country Tournament at SUNY Canton where they will play the hosts in the opening round on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
