BOSTON, MA (December 2, 2024) -- Junior
Scott Gyimesi totaled 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists as one of many stars for the No. 16 Tufts University men's basketball team Monday night, as the Jumbos cruised past host Emmanuel College for an 86-51 win in non-conference play inside Jean Yawkey Center.
It was a strong night across the board for the Jumbos, as 12 players found the score sheet, as Tufts made a season-high 36 field goals. The Jumbos also shot 60 percent on two-point attempts Monday night, holding a massive 46-14 edge in points in the paint against Emmanuel.
The Jumbos (6-1) didn't get off to a great start though, as the host Saints led by five at 16-11 at 12:54 to go in the first half. Tufts responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes, taking a four-point edge at 22-18 after a bucked from
Liam Kennelly.
Emmanuel would cut the lead back down to one at 22-21 with 7:26 to play in the first half, but another huge 18-3 run by the Jumbos gave them a 16-point lead after a bucket from Gyimesi. Tufts ended up taking a 16-point edge into the break at 44-28. Gyimesi finished the first half with 16 of his 23 points in the opening stanza.
The second half would continue the dominance for the Jumbos, as Tufts led by as much as 39 on a two-handed, windmill dunk by first-year
Evan Reeves to put an exclamation point on the victory.
Junior
James Morakis tallied 18 points and six rebounds for Tufts on Monday night, as he was 7-of-16 from the floor, and sophomore
Dylan Reilly knocked down three triples en route to 11 points and four boards.
Sophomore
Jon Medley finished with six points, three rebounds and four helpers in the win, while
Joshua Bernstein fended off foul trouble to record six points, four steals and four boards.
Reeves tallied five points and two rebounds in six minutes of action, and sophomore
Liam Kennelly had four points and two assists in six minutes. First-year
Isaac Friedman also knocked down his first collegiate field goal, making a three in the final minutes, and senior
Trumann Gettings scored four points.
Tufts outrebounded its hosts 49-31 for the night, while holding a 17-4 edge in fast break points. The Jumbos also tallied a 16-9 advantage in points off turnovers, as Tufts committed only eight giveaways for the game.
Noah Beaudet led the Saints (0-7) with 12 points, while Vondre Chase had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Tufts will be back in action Wednesday evening inside Cousens Gymnasium, taking on No. 7 Keene State College at 7 p.m. in a big non-conference tilt.
