MEDFORD, MA (December 4, 2024) – Four players from the NCAA finalist Tufts University field hockey team were announced today as National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honorees.
Graduate midfielder
Andrea DelGiudice, senior forward
Kylie Rosenquest and junior goalie
Lydia Eastburn earned Region II first-team honors. Senior forward
Claire Gavin is on the second team.
All four were key contributors to head coach
Tina Mattera's Tufts team that won the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship this fall and were the #1 team in the final NPI rankings. Tufts then advanced to the NCAA national championship game in Lexington, Virginia.
DelGiudice, in a fifth year of eligibility, led the Jumbos with 15 goals and 37 points (seven assists) this fall. She was the NFHCA National Player of the Week on September 8 after scoring six goals with three assists in back-to-back wins over Colby College and Connecticut College. Her 15 goals matches the most at Tufts for a season since 2013.
Like DelGiudice, Rosenquest also produced a career-best offensive season with nine goals and nine assists for 27 points. She had three goals and an assist in Tufts' four NCAA Tournament games, including scoring the game-winner in the Elite 8 versus Bates College and setting up the game-winner in the national semifinals against Williams College.
Eastburn's 0.82 goals against average led the NESCAC this season to go with a strong .746 save percentage. Perhaps most notably, she helped the Jumbos win a remarkable four straight shootout games late in the season. She was also honored as the NFHCA National Player of the Week after leading Tufts to the conference title with shootout performances against Williams in the semis and Bates in the final.
Gavin added seven goals and four assists (18 points) to a much improved Tufts offense this year. She scored twice in a key early-season win over Babson College, then led the Jumbos with a goal and an assist in the NCAA Sweet 16 against Rowan University after Tufts was selected as one of four NCAA Regional hosts in the country.
This is the second straight All-Region first team honor for DelGiudice. Rosenquest, also named to the 2024 NFHCA DIII Senior Team, adds this All-Region award to a second team selection in 2022. The All-Region honor is the first for Eastburn and Gavin.
