Cameron Yuen and freshman
Elias Brandt performed well in the three-meter competition at the NCAA Diving Regional on Friday afternoon at Colby College.
Out of 16 total competitors, Yuen placed fifth with a 440.55 score on 11 dives and Brandt was sixth compiling a 438.15 score. Sophomore
Jeremy Lawrence was also in action for the Jumbos and placed 12th with a 415.85 score.
With six men's diving berths into the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championship meet allocated for divers at the Colby Regional, the finishes by Yuen and Brandt today put them in the running for NCAA berths. Tomorrow's results in the one-meter competition will factor into the six overall berths as well, which will be announced on Monday (Mar. 4).
On his ninth dive, Yuen did a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck which earned a 58.00 score for his best of the day. His top voluntary dive score was 39.90 on a Reverse Dive Pike, his third overall dive. For Brandt, his best required dive was a Back Dive Pike on which he scored 41.40. He later had Tufts' best score of the day with a 63.45 on an Inward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck.
Tufts freshman
Jay Wilkinson, the New England Small College Athletic Conference champion in one- and three-meter diving, did not compete today due to illness. He hopes to take part in tomorrow's one-meter event.
Sophomore Thomas Cable from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy won the Regional title in three-meter today with a 510.65 score.
The men's one-meter event on Saturday is scheduled to start at noon.
