FREDERICKSBURG, VA (March 18, 2024) -- The No. 15 ranked Tufts University women's tennis team displayed their prowess on the courts, securing a resounding 8-1 victory over No. 26 University of Mary Washington in action from the University Tennis Center.
Mary Washington managed to secure a victory in the first doubles match, with Amanda Hagino and Hana Kimmey defeating Zoe Kava and Rebecca Lim with a score of 8-3, Tufts quickly regained their momentum after that.
In the second and third doubles matches, Tufts' pairs demonstrated their superiority, securing victories with scores of 8-6 and 8-2, respectively. The dynamic duos of Natalie Hu and Stephanie Woodbury along with Sophie Wax and Steffy Jullian displayed impeccable teamwork and strategic play, ensuring Tufts' comprehensive triumph in the doubles rounds.
In singles action with the Jumbos leading 2-1, Natalie Hu posted a quick 6-1, 6-0 lead at No. 5 to up her record this spring to 3-2 including a 3-1 mark at the fifth spot. Jullian followed her heroic win from Sunday with another on Monday, as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the sixth position to push Tufts to within a victory of the team win.
That clinching point would come at No. 4 singles, as Lucy Mitchell chalked up a straight-set win with scores of 6-4, 6-1 as she picked up her third win of the spring. Wax tallied her second win of the day at No. 3 singles, as she rallied from dropping the opening set 6-3 to earn a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) win over Addison Feltz in a super tiebreaker.
Kava needed a tiebreaker in the first set to knock off Hagino in the No. 1 match, as she picked up a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win. The final match to conclude was at No. 2, as Lim continued her outstanding play so far this spring by winning a marathon thriller as she won the super tiebreaker 16-14 to post a 7-6 (3), 1-6, 1-0 (14) victory to help Tufts sweep singles. Lim is now 4-1 on the spring.
Tufts will be off for two days before taking on No. 8 Johns Hopkins University at Emory University Thursday at 10 a.m.
