Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

No. 8 Johns Hopkins Tops Women's Tennis Thursday, 7-2

ATLANTA, GA (March 21, 2024) -- The No. 15 Tufts University women's tennis squad was right there with No. 8 Johns Hopkins University Thursday afternoon, but a doubles' sweep by the Blue Jays was enough to lift JHU to a 7-2 win over the Jumbos in action from Emory University.

JHU (8-3) took an early lead as Kamila Wong and Sydney Langer bested Tufts' duo of Natalie Hu and Stephanie Woodbury 8-4 in the first doubles' match to conclude at No. 2. The next two matches to finish both went to tiebreaks, as Lucy Mitchell and Steffy Jullian were topped 8-7 (4) at No. 3 to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.

In the final doubles' match, Zoe Kava and Rebecca Lim played well but were bested by Jay Xiao and Sophia Kim 8-7 (5). In singles, Kim would pick up her second victory of the day to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead as she bested Mitchell 6-3, 6-2.

The clinching point came at No. 5 with Stephanie Wang earning a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jullian.

The Jumbos did get a pair of wins, both in third-set super tiebreakers. Kava chalked up a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) win over Mary Beth Hurley to win her second straight and move to 3-3 on the season. At No. 2, Lim improved her win streak to a team-high four matches, upping her record this spring season to 5-1 with a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (5) win over Ashley Chang.

Tufts will have a day off before finishing its Spring Break trip in Atlanta against No. 6 Emory University at 9 a.m.
