WATERVILLE, ME (March 2, 2024) - All four Jumbos who competed today finished in the top 10 of the one-meter event at the NCAA Diving Regional hosted by Colby College.
Tufts University freshman
Jay Wilkinson came in second place out of 19 total contestants with a 468.65 score on 11 dives. Sophomore
Jeremy Lawrence took sixth place with a 424.15 total. In seventh was junior
Cameron Yuen at 423.70 and freshman
Elias Brandt finished ninth (420.10).
Unofficially, Wilkinson and Yuen will qualify out of the Regional to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships coming up March 20-23 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Wilkinson, who missed yesterday's three-meter event due to illness, qualifies nationally based on today's result. Yuen qualifies for NCAA's with his fifth-place finish in yesterday' three-meter event (440.55). A total of six divers from the Colby Regional earn NCAA berths. The official announcement will come on Monday (Mar. 4).
Lawrence, who was 12th in three-meter yesterday, and Brandt, sixth in three-meter, appear to have narrowly missed NCAA qualifying. They could be chosen as alternates for the meet.
In today's one-meter competition, Wilkinson's top voluntary dive was a Forward 1 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Free for which he was awarded a 44.00 score. In his optional dives, he did a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck for a 54.00 score, and an Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike judged at 51.60.
Lawrence had an Inward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck for a 55.80 among his optional dives, Tufts' best score of the day. In voluntaries, a Forward 1 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Free for a 42.90 score was Lawrence's best.
Yuen's best attempts today were a Forward 1 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Free to score 44.00 in voluntaries, and a Forward 1 Somersault 3 Twist Free for a 47.60 mark in optional dives.
Brandt hit a Forward 1 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Free for a 42.90 score in voluntaries today, and a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck for 46.80 points as his top optional mark.
Sophomore Thomas Cable from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy made it a clean sweep at the Regional, winning off the one-meter board today with a 494.55 score. He was the three-meter champion yesterday (510.65).
