Steady Scoring Keeps Tufts Women's Lax Undefeated At Endicott

BEVERLY, MA (March 24, 2024) -- Senior Madeline Delaney and junior Kate Mastrobuono finished with season-highs of four goals, helping lead a balanced attack in a 19-8 road non-conference win at Endicott College inside Hempstead Stadium Sunday afternoon. 

The win helped Tufts stay undefeated, as the Jumbos moved to 8-0 after weekend wins over Western Connecticut State University Saturday and Endicott Sunday. The Jumbos got took a 2-0 lead after goals from Delaney and junior Ella Lesperance before Emerson Clark got the Gulls (3-5) on the board with eight minutes left in the first quarter. 

Mastrobuono netted her first of the day with 3:34 remaining in the opening period, followed 30 seconds later by another by Delaney to make the score 4-1. A Margie Carden tally off of a nice feed from junior defender Kathryn Fernandopulle to push the Jumbos lead to 5-1 at the end of the first quarter. 

The game was 8-3 midway through the second quarter before Lesperance netted a man-up goal from Allie Zorn to start a 6-0 run that ended with a Schuyler Lloyd tally and a 14-3 edge for Tufts. Endicott netted three straight at the end of the third to trim the Jumbos' lead to nine, but three goals to start the fourth quarter from Tufts got the running clock going for the remainder of the game.

Delaney's career-high goal total came on seven shots, as the senior also posted four draw controls as well. Mastrobuono tallied her career-high four goals on five shots on goal, adding a ground ball, while Lesperance collected three points on two goals and an assist. Zorn dished out two assists to go with a goal, and Genna Gibbons was stellar with a goal, assist, two caused turnovers and six draw controls. 

Joyce also was strong on the circle with three draw controls, picking up two goals and two assists, and Caroline Cromwell netted a goal and assisted on another for the Jumbos.

Lloyd picked up a team-high three ground balls, causing two turnovers as well, and Fernandopulle, Kate Deehan and Kate Wujciak each had two caused turnovers as well. Junior Pascale de Buren made six saves in the victory for the Jumbos. Tufts also finishes non-conference play in 2024 with an umblemished 5-0 mark. 

Kiana Napolitano posted four points to lead the Gulls, and goalkeeper Lydia Akins stopped 17 shots. 

Tufts will get some time off before heading to No. 9 Colby College next Saturday, March 30 in Waterville, ME.
