No. 6 Men's Lacrosse Blitzes No. 18 Middlebury For Key NESCAC Road Win

MIDDLEBURY, VT (April 13, 2024) -- The No. 6 Tufts University men's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals on the road Saturday at No. 18 Middlebury College, using that spurt to roll to a 23-11 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory in play from Youngman Field. 

The Jumbos (10-2, 7-1 NESCAC) wasted little time getting on the board, as sophomore Garrett Kelly cashed in the opening possession of the game for Tufts with his 19th goal of the season. Tufts scored 16 seconds later thanks on a Jack Regnery unassisted goal, as the Jumbos continued to add on as a Charlie Tagliaferri score finished the opening frame with Tufts up 8-0. 

Middlebury would score their opening two goals on a pair of Billy Curtis scores, but Jumbo junior Max Ettinghausen responded with back-to-back strikes to make make it 10-2. Things would settle down offensively, but the Jumbos ended up taking an eight-goal edge into halftime as Victor Salcedo netted a scoop and score goal off a face-off to make it 11-3 at the break. 

Middlebury got as close as six on multiple occasions, but Tufts finished the game on a six-goal run to cruise to the league victory. 

Regnery led the Jumbos offensively with seven points on six goals and an assist, scooping up three grounders to go with a caused turnovers. Ettinghausen recorded his 100th career point for the Jumbos on Saturday, as he finished the day with 102 after recording three goals and three assists for six points. 

Tagliaferri scored three times to go with two assists, and Kelly added four points on three goals an an assist. Callum Wood tallied two goals on the day, while Cam Delcristo recorded two goals and three grounders. Brooks Hauser and Louis Timmins each set up two goals, and Chase Beyer netted his first multiple-goal game with the Jumbos with a pair of tallies. 

Parker Merril had another stellar day at the "X" on Saturday, as he won 14 of his 20 draws while adding eight ground balls in the win. Ben Frisoli caused a turnover while picking up two grounders for Tufts, which outshot the Panthers 62-33 for the game. 

Curtis led Middlebury (7-6, 5-3 NESCAC) with four goals, and Russell Thorndike also totaled three goals for the Panthers. William Munroe was 17-for-35 on face-offs for Middlebury as well. 

Tufts will finish up non-conference play on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., hosting Babson College on Bello Field.
