Jumbo Women's Tennis Earns Big 7-2 Win Over No. 13 Bowdoin

MEDFORD, MA (April 14, 2024) -- The hot play of late continued for the No. 18 Tufts University women's tennis squad, as the Jumbos used a sweep in doubles to hand No. 13 Bowdoin College its first New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) loss of the season with a 7-2 decision inside Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center.

The Jumbos (7-6, 4-3 NESCAC) moved to an undefeated 4-0 at home this season, as the Jumbos saw strong doubles play out of the gate. The duo of Steffy Jullian and Sophie Wax won their third straight match while moving to 6-5 on the season with an 8-1 decision at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 doubles, the lead would increase to 2-0 thanks to an 8-5 win by Zoe Kava and Rebecca Lim over Jamilah Karah and Elizabeth Yu. The final doubles match to finish was a tight affair, but Stephanie Woodbury and Natalie Hu notched their team-leading eighth doubles' win of the year with an 8-6 victory to clinch the sweep going to singles.

Kava kept the momentum going for the Jumbos with an emphatic victory at No. 1 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Karah. Cara Hung would put the Polar Bears (7-5, 4-1 NESCAC) on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Lim at No. 2 singles, but the clinching point came moments later as Sophie Wax got in the win column with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

Lucy Mitchell would pick up a marathon win at No. 4 singles, defeating Julia Ross 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (7) in a super-tiebreaker. Hu also recorded her eighth win of the season, tying for the team lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Zoe Sun at No. 5.

Tufts has now won three straight matches and five of the last six, and will look to continue the strong play next Saturday afternoon, April 20 at Connecticut College at 2 p.m.
