Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Goes 2-0 in Matches Saturday

MEDFORD, MA (April 20, 2024) The No. 10 ranked Tufts University men's tennis sent two sent two split squads to compete in two matches for the day. The first squad was sent to Conn. College and the second squad was at home against Brandeis. 

Match 1: Jumbos 9 Camels 0 

The Jumbos (11-5) played their first match of the day against the Camels. The Jumbos got things going by dominating in doubles as they swept 3-0. At the No. 1 doubles with junior Lachie Macintosh and Derin Acaroglu defeating Aaron Fleishman and Sigmund Winiecki 8-5. At the No. 2 doubles senior Corey Marley and sophomore Sacha Maes bested Jared Leong and Walker Mulligan in the closest doubles of the day 8-7. At the No. 3 doubles freshman Garv Bahl and sophomore Andrej Djokic defeated Jules Taylor-Kerman and James Serhant III 8-3. 

Going into singles after sweeping doubles the Jumbos would stay in control as they also went 6-0 in singles action.  

At the No. 1 singles, Macintosh defeated Aaron Fleishman 6-1, 6-2. At the No. 2 singles, Acaroglu bested Taylor-Kerman  6-1, 6-2. At the No. 3 singles, Bahl defeated Leong in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. 

At the No. 4 singles, Djokic defeated Mulligan 6-1, 7-5. At the No. 5 singles, Maes bested Winiecki 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 6 singles first year Takehiro Shuda bested Gavin Anderson 6-1, 6-0. 

Match 2: Jumbos 8 Judges 1 

The second match of the day was at home on Voute Courts against the Judges. The Judges coming into the match only had five players and had to withdraw from one singles match and one doubles match which put the Jumbos up 2-0 going into the match. 

The Jumbos (12-5) swept their two doubles matches as junior Vuk Vuksanovic and sophomore Alex Ganchev defeated Dylan Walters and Pierce Garbett at the No. 1 doubles 8-1. At the No. 2 doubles, senior Mauricio Gutierrez and sophomore Javier Gonzalez defeated Huasen Dong and Harrison Huai 8-1. 

The Jumbos were going into singles up 4-0 on the Judges only needing one match point to earn a victory. At the No. 1 singles, Vuksanovic bested Walters 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 2 singles, Gonzalez bested Garbett 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. At the No. 3 singles, Ganchev bested Dong 6-1, 7-6. 

At the No. 4 singles senior Oliver Obeid bested Aaron Basye 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (6). At the No. 5 singles first year, Davide Mirza was bested by Huai 3-6, 2-6.

Up next the Jumbos will return home to Voute Courts for senior day against Hamilton College Saturday, April 27, at 10 A.M.
