MEDFORD, MA (April 27, 2024) -- The No. 11 Tufts University men's tennis squad honored its three seniors on Saturday at home against Hamilton College, cruising to an 8-1 win as the Jumbos celebrated
Mauricio Gutierrez,
Oliver Obeid and
Corey Marley prior to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) win on Voute Courts.
The Jumbos earned victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles on the afternoon, as
Alex Ganchev and
Vuk Vuksanovic toppled Anson Anderson and Tarun Korwar 8-1 at the top spot. Seniors Gutierrez and Marley had no issues at all in earning their first win of the season together with an 8-0 blanking of Charlie Sternberg and Coby Feldman. Hamilton would pick up one victory at No. 2 doubles, as Gianni Esposito and Connor Griff topped
Derin Acaroglu and
Lachie Macintosh 8-3.
The singles play would be dominated by the Jumbos though, as Vuksanovic won his second straight and eighth in the last 10 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Griff at the No. 1 position.
Javier Gonzalez upped his record on the season to 14-8 with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Korwar at No. 2 singles, as the sophomore won his sixth straight match for Tufts.
First-year
Garv Bahl picked up his seventh straight victory as he moved to 3-0 on the season at the No. 3 spot with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Anderson. Djokic tallied his 10th straight victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Feldman, and Marley was a double winner with a 7-6, 6-1 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Obeid also celebrated Senior Day with a singles' victory, as he was victorious with a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (7) win over Sternberg at the No. 6 position. Obeid is now 7-2 this season.
The Jumbos have now won 10 matches in a row against Division III opposition, and have dropped just eight individual matches during that stretch. Furthermore, Tufts has lost just three of the last 60 singles matches it has played.
Tufts looks to extend the winning streak on Sunday, hosting No. 17 Amherst College at 10 a.m. on Voute Courts in the NESCAC and regular season finale.
