Sailing Starts at ICSA Team Racing Nationals Tomorrow

MEDFORD, MA (April 24, 2024) - Starting tomorrow, Tufts University Sailing will be one of 16 teams in the nation to compete at the 2024 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Racing National Championship. Hosted by MIT out of the Wood Sailing Pavilion, the competition runs Thursday through Saturday.

All three days of racing at the Championship will begin at approximately 11:00 am and continue until about 6:00 pm. The planned format for the Championship is to start with a round-robin of all 16 teams, from which the Top 8 teams will compete in a second round-robin, and then a final round-robin of the Top 4 teams from the second stage to determine a champion. Race officials can decide upon changes to the format due to weather conditions or time.

Harvard University's media team will produce a broadcast of the Championship on ESPN+. Viewers will need to purchase a monthly pass to view the broadcast. More Information is available here: https:// plus.espn.com/#faqs.

Expected to start for Tufts will be the teams of senior skipper Trevor Davis with senior crew Celia Byrne, sophomore skipper Ben Mueller with junior crew Rees Tindall and freshman skipper Wyatt Bischoff with junior crew Cindy Wang. Head coach Johnny Norfleet's Jumbos will have a deep group of alternates available as well. Senior Connor Rosow and freshman Kurt Stuebe as skippers, and junior Nicolas Echarte, senior Amelia Carlson, junior Will Eykyn and junior Leo Terry as crews will be on site.

In the first round-robin featuring every team, the order of opponents the Jumbos will face is MIT, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Harvard, Stanford, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Tulane, Georgetown, Yale, Boston College, Roger Williams, Wisconsin, College of Charleston, U.S. Naval Academy, Brown and Dartmouth.

Conditions for the three days look good, outside of a potential for light wind on Thursday morning. According to The Weather Channel, Thursday's forecast is sunny with a high of 54 with winds NE at 5 to 10 mph. Friday is also looking sunny with a high near 55 and winds ENE at 10 to 15 mph. Saturday looks like sunshine and some clouds, a high of 64 and winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.
