HARTFORD, CT (April 7, 2024) - The No. 13 ranked Tufts University women's tennis team competed in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) duel match play against foe Trinity College at the Paul Assaiante Tennis Center in Hartford Connecticut Sunday morning.
The Jumbos (5-6) started off the day in doubles action against the Bantams. The Jumbos won doubles 2-1 on the day. Junior Sophia Wax and Sophomore
Steffy Jullian were at the No. 3 doubles and defeated Kennedy White and Hellena Trojer the Jumbos duo quickly got an 8-1 victory. Seniors
Rebecca Lim and
Zoe Kava won at the No. 1 doubles defeating Ella Baker and Josephine Kimball 8-4. At the No. 2 doubles freshman
Natalie Hu and sophomore
Stephanie Woodbury were defeated by Elise Brennan and Angelina Shyltsyna 4-8.
In singles action, the Jumbos kept up the pressure on the Bantams. Hu made quick work of Trojer at the No. 5 singles match as she won 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 4 singles match sophomore
Lucy Mitchell defeated Brennan 6-2, 6-3. Kava clinched the match for the Jumbos at the No. 1 singles match as she defeated Kimball 6-3, 6-2.
At the No. 6 singles match sophomore
Nikki Kintiroglou defeated White 6-2 7-5 to extend the Jumbos score to 6-1. At the No. 3 singles, Wax was bested in a hard-fought three-set match against Baker 6-3, 1-6, 3-6. At the No. 2 singles, Lim defeated Angelina Shyltsyna in a three-set match that went into a tie breaker Lim one the the first set 6-4, lost the second set 3-6, and then pulled out the victory in the third set 1-0 (7).
The Jumbos will continue NESCAC play next weekend April 13, as they will come home to face off Colby College on the Voute Courts on the campus of Tufts University. The match is scheduled to go off at 2 P.M.
